Havertape Family

havertape_family.jpgGreetings from Kolchugino, Russia! Our family is here to plant a Calvary Chapel in this city. We have been in Russia since August 2003 and are watching the Lord add to the church! Jason is pasturing our little body right now and enjoying it very much. We have the opportunity to do a lot of ministry as a family. The city has closed all avenues of ministry (such as orphanages, schools and so on), but we have street witnessing and we minister in the hospitals.
Besides planting a church the main goal is to reach as many as possible with the Gospel. We have begun a ministry here to the women who are having an abortion. Abortion is very common in Russia and so the hospitals have opened their doors to us to come and speak with the women about abortion and its effects. They allow us to share the Gospel as well. We have seen fruit in this ministry, praise the Lord! God has been faithful and we are always waiting for the next thing He will do or the next person He will bring. Please remember to pray for Kolchugino. As well as the ministry in Kolchugino the Lord is now opening the door to begin a Bible College in January 2010. The Bible College will be in Vladimir and will be an extension campus of the Murrieta Campus.

How did you become a Christian?

Jason Havertape: I was raised in a Christian home. My mom told me I said the sinner’s prayer when I was kid, but I did not choose to live for Christ until I was older. As a teenager, I lived in the world and got into some trouble; then, one day I was at work and I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered where am I going? Where is my life leading me? I fell to the floor in the bathroom at work and asked the Lord to come and live in me and change me. My parents prayed for me so many years, and finally at the age of 20, I gave my life to Christ. Praise the Lord for all of those who interceded for me and for the Holy Spirit continuing to chase me.

Britny Havertape: My parents were saved when I was five years old. When I was eight, my father was killed in a car accident. For a couple years we did not go to church. When my mother remarried, we began attending church again at Maranatha Chapel. On a Wednesday night service, I was with my mom and Pastor Ray gave an invitation to receive Jesus. I knew in my heart I needed Him, but I thought I was too young; I was 11 years old. Then Pastor Ray said, “If you are sitting there wondering if you are too young, don’t think so; I was 11 when I gave my heart to the Lord.” I ran forward and thought, then I can too. I have walked with Jesus ever since.

What led you to the Mission Field?

We met at Bible College in Murrieta, California. When we met, we both already knew that we wanted to be missionaries. Jason had been to Russia on a short-term trip and felt the call on his life, and I had been on several short-term trips throughout High School. I knew that God was calling me to be a missionary. When we decided to get married, we had already prayed together about where God would send us to serve on the foreign Missions field. We are planting a Calvary Chapel. God has given us the vision to lead people to truth and pure doctrine. There are so many lies, Satan is the Father of lies, and we want to see people cleansed, healed and ultimately live their lives with the knowledge of God’s truth. We truly believe that God’s word is sufficient for everything that we need in our lives and we want the people that God brings into our lives to know that as well.

What vision has God given you for the people you are serving?

What is your favorite scripture?

2 Timothy 3: 16-17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
