Caligiuri Family

Country: Spain
Focus: The Caligiuri's live their passions for the message of Christ with a global, creative, & personal style. Through naturally authentic relationships a community of artists expresses their faith with the discovery of the scriptures and their personal God-given destiny.
The Caligiuri Family lives in Europe and are actively defining cross cultural missions with a variety of communities abroad. In 1985 they began their work in Mexico with a time of immersion while serving the poor. In Thessaloniki, Greece their focus was to come along side believers, uniting the various denominations through pastoral teaching and establishing relevant ideals for the family. They held underground meetings in Bulgaria during the time when the church was behind the Iron Curtain. After the Berlin Wall fell, Steven was instrumental in Bulgaria assisting young pastors in new churches on how to teach the Bible. They went on to launch a new church in So. Germany which brought a balance of community for this generation. As a growing church it has now sent out its own messengers for Christ and transformed many in the city of Freiburg. The Caligiuri’s now lives in Alicante, Spain. Their passion is living the message of Christ naturally with authenticity. Expressions of faith are found through cultural immersion, embracing language learning, discovery of the arts, and teaching the Jesus lifestyle with conversations about God. You can be a part of this ministry through the Edge Project Summer Missions (www.edgeontheweb.org).
How did you become a Christian?
Steven grew up Catholic, but didn’t want to believe or tried not to; as a young adult he started asking questions and began searching. He started reading his parents’ Catholic bible, but by the time he got to Leviticus, he became confused and stopped. In this process of searching, he prayed and God answered. There were some very specific things he prayed for, and when they were realized, he knew God does exist, He is real; and that was all he needed to believe.
How long have you been on the Mission Field?
Steven, Arianna and their daughters are the first family sent to the mission field from Maranatha. Their first mission was to Greece in 1986.
What led you to the Mission Field?
My wife and I had been praying about missions; our eyes and ears were open, looking and praying and talking to people. We’d experienced a few “Greek encounters” and were praying for the Lord to show us if we were to go to Greece. At service at Maranatha, after announcements, we turned to greet the people sitting behind us, and it was a man named Apostollos. We also met his wife, Ismene, and learned they were from Greece. There were other “God-incidences” that occurred. As you’re seeking Him, things seem obvious and as you take a step in that direction, He confirms it. Apostollos and Ismene gave us some contacts in Greece and that set us in the right direction.
What vision has God given you for the people you are serving?
In Jesus words, "...The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.' And... 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' There is no other commandment that ranks with these." The Message - Mark 12: 29-31
